This is the first time I’ve designed for film. My professor wanted us to design for a short film they had done over the pandemic. The parameters were pretty open, so my group decided to turn the zombie apocalypse into a fungi infection. The direction we took it in gave us three different worlds to design, so the themes we played with were virality, altered states, liminality spaces, and mushrooms.

For my costumes, I went for a conceptual look. I really enjoyed stretching the unreality and liminal quality of the first set. They’re so unbelievably wacky. I also spent a lot of time hunting for different mushrooms to pull inspiration from and considering how they could affect the characters in different ways. It was awesome to play with such strong contrasts between the worlds, while finding the similarities between a character’s costumes.
